Shootings condemned

Kensington police and the local community policing forum (CPF) have come out strongly against crime in the area after a series of recent shooting incidents, two of them fatal.

“The Kensington Community Policing Forum condemns the latest shootings in the community,” says spokesperson Cheslyn

Police are investigating a murder case after a 37-year-old man was killed in a suspected gang-related shooting in Factreton on Friday 8 June. The incident took place in Glider Crescent at about 06:00.

According to the CPF, it was a second fatal shooting in the area in recent days. “This office can now confirm two murders and two attempted murders within the span of a week,” says Steenberg.

Police say they cannot confirm if it was a gang-related shooting but condemn the incident.“We strongly condemn the shooting or any shootings and with our learners who have started exams it puts and extra strain on (them) and parents and the community as a whole,” says police spokesperson, Sergeant Angeline Grill.

No arrests have yet been made.

The CPF has vowed to fight shootings.“This CPF wishes to reiterate its stance on these shootings, irrespective of the circumstances: We will not allow this! We will not stand by and see our community being held hostage by a group of inconsiderate people.”
