An original piece full of well-known hit songs opens at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg tomorrow.

The story of Hope Street – The Musical follows Jonathan, an isolated, lonely man, as he reminisces about his wonderful life on the very street he finds himself standing on. It is told through a conversation he has with two unlikely companions, Blikkies and Bergie – a pair of homeless figures seeking refuge in the heart of Cape Town.

The musical will carry the audience through a journey of laughter, love and togetherness, and use well-known songs like “Memory”, “One Hand One Heart”, “We Found Love”, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Another Day in Paradise” to get there.

The narrative spans from the 1950s to current day and is punctuated with toe-tapping show tunes, sweeping ballads and the electric energy of the occasional pop hit worked into the mix.

Stephan Fourie helms this new musical with Tersia Harley in charge of music and the acclaimed Rushney Ferguson the choreographer.

Presented by the Masque Theatre Players, Hope Street – The Musical runs until Sunday 20 December, excluding Monday and Tuesday. V Tickets cost R100 each. Call 021 788 1898 (on weekdays from 09:00 to 16:00 and Saturdays from 09:00 to noon) or email bookings@masquetheatre.co.za to book. Visit the masquetheatre page on Facebook for more information.
