Sign petition for police station overhaul

Kensington-based youth organisation, Frontiers, is urging the community to sign a petition that calls for the national police commissioner and president Cyril Ramaphosa to have the Kensington Police Station completely overhauled. This comes after there has been a spate of gang-related violence in recent years.

Frontiers chairperson Cheslyn Steenberg says that when there are shootings, police get to the scene after the events have happened, which is often too late. “We do, however, acknowledge the small successes made by Kensington police but it is not enough,” Steenberg said.

He says the public fear moving around in their own community. “We cannot truly embrace our human rights. We are therefore demanding that the national police disband the Kensington police...”
