Sign up to become a reservist

2016-11-29 06:01

Manenberg Police Station has opened up its application process to accept new volunteers to become police reservists, but what does it take to become a reservist?

First, one has to be born in South Africa, and not be older than 50 years. Applicants will be required to undergo a medical examination and psychometric assessment to ascertain their fitness for the programme. Those who enrol should not have a criminal record or any pending charges against them.

Police reservists will be required to perform general policing duties at station level. Information and application forms can be found at the nearest police station.

Applicants must specify which station they are applying to. The application form has to be signed in the presence of a commissioner of oath. Applications need to have copies of the applicants ID, driver’s licence and Matric certificate, proof of permanent employment and proof of residence.

Successful applicants will be invited to take part in a reservist training programme. The training will consist of various practices which will enable them to function as a police officer, such as crime investigation, crime prevention and street survival.

Once reservists complete the training, they will be required to deliver 16 hours of voluntary duty per month.
