Sleeping suspects nabbed

2016-10-25 06:00

Three suspected car thieves were caught after they were found sleeping in the stolen car at Crawford train station.

Lansdowne police spokesperson Sergeant Nkululeko Mnyaka says the three men, aged between 20 and 28, were arrested at Crawford Station on Wednesday.

“Around 06:00 Lansdowne police crime prevention members Sergeant Siyamdumisa Mrubata and Constable Fernal Mathese were patrolling along Clive Road in Crawford and spotted a white Kia Soul in the parking bay with three occupants sleeping inside.

“Officers approached the vehicle, woke the occupants and searched them,” Mnyaka explains.

They found a half mandrax tablet on one man and a tik lolly on another.

The officers then discovered that the car had been reported stolen in July in Table View.

All three men are facing charges of possession of a stolen car and two of the suspects were charged with possession of drugs.

One of the suspects is also wanted by the Athlone police, Mnyaka says.
