Jam Every Other Day is returning to the Masque Theatre to delight and entertain audiences this April. Adapted from the memoir of South African author Emmaleen Kriel, this play is a feel-good show with healthy doses of humour, charm and pathos. Jam Every Other Day opens at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg on Friday 13 April and runs until Saturday 21 April, excluding Sunday to Thursday. The story follows the lives of Kriel and her brood of children, geese, ponies and dogs, from their home in 1960s rural Constantia to their adventure in the forests of Knysna. Life certainly had its hardships for the family, but on the whole it genuinely was just as idyllic as it seemed – if a little unconventional. This daring one-woman show is brought to life by popular Masque actress, Erika Marais. She not only performs the piece, but was the driving force behind the adaptation. Having been a young mother herself, Marais found that the challenges and the life portrayed in the memoir resonated deeply. The piece has been thoughtfully crafted by award-winning director Celia Musikanth. Adding the creative cherry on top, the lighting and sound are designed by Gary Fargher, who has won numerous awards for his technical excellence.
