Local soccer stars from across the city received their official colours and were honoured at a farewell lunch ceremony held at Plumstead High School on Sunday afternoon.

The talented players will represent Africa through Ikapa United Football Club at two different tournaments set to take place in the USA this month.

The club’s u.19 boys will compete in the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup 2018 tournament, and for the first time in history, will be joined by Ikapa United’s u.17 girls’ team who will also compete in the Dallas International Girls’ Cup.

The players hail from all over Cape Town, including Lansdowne, Manenberg, Mitchell’s Plain and Strandfontein, among other areas.

A variety of guest speakers were present to wish the groups well on their journey, including Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis. She shared a few words of inspiration with the young players and their parents on the day.

Both teams departed from Cape Town International Airport today.

V Those who would like to follow the progress of the teams while competing over the next few days can visit Ikapa United on Facebook or email ikapasporting2007@gmail.com.
