Special ratings area won’t come soon, City says

2017-08-15 06:01

A City of Cape Town official says the proposed establishment of a special ratings area (SRA) in Kenilworth might not be implemented in July next year due to the processes that need to be followed first.

Last week Kenilworth residents and business members told People’s Post (“Locals tackle vagrants”, 8 August) that they have proposed the SRA, expecting it to come into effect next year.

But Johan van der Merwe, Mayco member for finance, says this “process can take up to 18 months and it has not commenced as yet.” He says an SRA not only provides extra security, but also ensures better cleansing, greening and social responsibility.
