Liefdespoort Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD) in Highlands Estate received a surprise visit from City of Cape Town officials on Thursday morning.

The crèche, situated in one of many informal settlements in the Philippi area, received a donation of much-needed goods from ward 43 councillor, Elton Jansen.

Mattresses, tables, chairs, a steel cabinet, blankets and educational toys were among the items handed over by Jansen as part of his ward allocation.

The crèche has been in existence for almost 30 years, and currently has 30 children under the leadership of the principal, Dorothy Thosa. Members of the ECD accepted the handover with joy.
