Stationery for Tafelsig Primary

As part of a stationery outreach drive, Mayor Dan Plato visited Tafelsig Primary School last Friday to hand over stationery packs to grade R learners.

The project is done in conjunction with the Western Cape Education Department.

Tafelsig Primary school was one of 10 schools selected in areas with higher rates of crime and unemployment.

Each of the 10 schools received R20 000 worth of stationery packs.

“We need to support vulnerable learners to help them to get a good education. Having the correct materials for classes will assist them in concentrating on their lessons. We see this initiative as a very important one,” said Plato in a statement.

The packs include glue stick, pencils, crayons, a colouring book and note book.

School principal Arthur Abrahams thanked Plato for the donations.

“On behalf of the school, staff and the little ones, we appreciate your presence and your gesture. I am of the opinion that no matter what we do, no matter how small it is, as long as we reach someone’s child, we have made a huge difference. Tafelsig is one of the often forgotten areas and especially big businesses, they do not like to invest in Tafelsig. For that they have their own reasons,” he said.

He further said the most important thing for them was to develop responsible children.

Plato spent some time with the children and asked them what they wanted to become.

“I hope you will enjoy and use the stationery,” he said to the children.

“There are lots of things happening in Tafelsig, but you must not pay attention to that. You must focus on your school work so that you can become (what you want to be).”

Plato also visited a primary school in Langa on Friday and will complete the rest of the 10 schools throughout the course of this week.
