Stolen vehicle towed

2016-10-25 06:00

On Wednesday 12 October at about 02:10, Muizenberg police officers noticed a green Fiat Uno towing a white VW Golf on Main Road, St James.

Muizenberg police spokesperson Captain Stephen Knapp says the Golf appeared to have a steering lock fixed to the steering wheel, which prompted the officers to pull both vehicles off.

“After the cars were pulled off, the green Uno sped up, breaking the tow rope and sped off in the direction of Muizenberg. The driver in the Golf jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to run away, but was apprehended by Sergeant Nomakhazi Bovu and Constable Julian Jacobs. A reasonable explanation for the possession of the Golf could not be provided by the suspect and he was arrested for being in possession of a presumed stolen motor vehicle,” he says.

After further investigation it was determined that the 30-year-old suspect, a resident of Crossroads, was sought for cases in Philippi. “A white Citi Golf was reported stolen to the police a short while later and police are investigating the possibility that it is the same vehicle.Colonel Ishmail Daniels, station commander of Muizenberg police, was pleased at the vigilance of his members and the apprehension of the suspect and congratulated Sergeant Bovu and Constable Jacobs on their good work.”
