Stop-n-searches find drugs, ammo

2016-03-22 06:00

Steenberg police have made a number of arrests thanks to community members.

Members of Operation Combat arrested a 43-year-old man from Seawind for the possession of and dealing in drugs at Fawley court last Tuesday at about 17:45. Eight whole mandrax tablets, 13 half mandrax tablets and R130 cash were confiscated.

While the police officers were busy with the arrest a group of about 50 people started throwing stones at them. The members retaliated by firing rubber bullets at the crowd to disperse them and leaving the area with the suspect.

Later that day, when members of Operation Combat were doing stop-and-search patrols in Depsiton Crescent, a 21-year-old man from Epsten Road was arrested for the illegal possession of 13 7.65mm rounds of ammunition.

At 22:00 on the same day an 18-year-old from Lavender Hill was arrested in Muir court for having 13 bankies of dagga.
