The Sea Point public swimming pool is closed for repairs until further notice.

The pool is known to use sea water and is the most water-wise swimming pool belonging to the City of Cape Town.

JP Smith, Mayco member for safety, security, says the facility took a battering during the storm that passed over Cape Town last month.

The railings between the pool and the sea have been destroyed, together with the raw sea water pumps, electrical components, rim flow covers, baby pool tiles and paving.

Two weeks after the storm, an electrical fire broke out, adding more damage to three main electrical boards.

In the meantime, an emergency site meeting was held, estimating that it will cost about R715 000 to repair the storm and fire damage.

Officials of the City’s recreation and parks department hope to complete the necessary repairs as soon as possible. They encourage swimmers to visit one of the City’s indoor swimming pools in the meantime.

The Long Street indoor pool is the closest pool to Sea Point and is open daily from 07:00 to 19:00.
