Strangers kind to seniors in distress

2017-12-05 06:00

On 19 October at 22:00 my car broke down at the intersection of Edinburgh Drive and Protea Road. Three elderly ladies were stranded.

Finally, a friend got through to the AA for me as my ancient cellphone does not work with “push 1 for... push 2 for...”

As we waited for the AA tow truck, an ADT man stopped to see if we were okay. At least five different young men stopped (in the centre of the busy road) to ask if we needed help and ensure we were okay. Three different tow trucks arrived at the same time. In spite of my telling them AA was on the way, they checked out the car and got it out of traffic.

Another ADT man (William Kata) appeared and stayed with us until the AA tow truck came. A friend came and took one of the ladies home as the tow truck could only take two passengers. She returned and waited with us. Fezile, the AA man, was so good with elderly ladies whose legs don’t work well any more. He even had a special plan to get us down out of the vehicle.

Grateful for all who were so helpful in a very stressful time.
