Cape Town Cluster Task Team in partnership with Kensington police established a street patrol  on Wednesday (July 26) in response to the ongoing gang violence in Kensington and Factreton.

The task team spokesperson, Constable Lorencial Johnson, says: “Recent weeks saw gang members firing shots at one another injuring and killing each other. The necessity arose to patrol the streets as innocent people are the ones who live in fear of being shot and killed. Police will do all it can to keep all [community members] safe as it is part of an oath every police member undertakes.”

Johnsons says the team has been tasked with a duty to help police “in policing the gang-stricken Kensington area”.

The street patrol follows three days after a third member of a gang was shot dead on Sunday (July 23) in Factreton. The shootings in these two suburbs have been going on for almost two months now.

He says the patrol saw a 15-year-old boy arrested for possession an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Glider Crescent in Kensington at about 10:00.
