‘Support academy’

2018-06-19 06:01

The Africa Mixed Martial Arts Academy has moved to Inns Road and there are big plans in store for its members.

Owner Chad Hepburn says he is busy planning an exclusive fighter development competition at their homeground, Wynberg Youth Centre. The academy was previously based at Coniston Park Recreational Hall in Steenberg.

The competition is aimed at creating a platform for amateur fighters to show off their skills and learn from others.

Hepburn says he has realised there is a need to invest in young talent, and giving them this exposure is vital.

“We would like to grow this kind of sport to fit in that of the mainstream. In order to do that, we should build our students to be the best they can be. Success starts with confidence. The event will not just be about fighting to win, but we want to help them get self-confidence and develop into future stars.”

Anyone between the ages of 13 and 40 who is interested in kickboxing may participate.

Hepburn says the focus is mainly on young individuals because it is crucial to shape their minds and encourage them to have vision in life.

He urges the community to support them by purchasing tickets, with the proceeds going towards the maintenance of their resources. Details of the ticket sales and date of competition will be announced once the planning has been finalised.
