Friends and family members gathered at the Blode Street sports field in Lavender Hill for the last two Sundays to raise hope at an anti-drug sport tournament.

The final matches will be played this Sunday from 11:30 to 17:30.

Ralph Bouwers of Guardians of the National Treasures (GNT) hopes people will come out in their numbers to support the players.

Bouwers previously said that through sports, friendships were being formed.

To make the tournament a reality GNT partnered with Cafda, the Steenberg Community Policing Forum and Learning in Reach.

Bouwers added that their aim was clear.

“We are saying ‘No’ to drugs, ‘No’ to violence. We believe sports can help heal our community and we are working towards unity. There is still a lot that needs to be done, but working together as a community, they can get a lot done,” he said.
