A 26-year-old man has been arrested for possession of a hijacked car and a firearm after a car chase.

Today (Tuesday 22 November) at 11:30 sector commanders in Woodlands were busy with daily patrols when they noticed a suspicious green VW Golf.

The officer approached the car and noticed four men inside who fled when they noticed the officer attempting to stop them.

The officer immediately called for backup from all surrounding vehicles who joined the car chase.

Officers then saw one of the men throwing a firearm over a wall in Hakdoring Street, Lentegeur while the other three men fled on foot.

The driver continued to evade police and the chase continued until he came to a standstill in Cedar Street, Rocklands. After an investigation it was discovered that the car had been reported as part of a hijacking case in Pelican Park earlier today.

The driver was arrested and will appear in the Mitchell's Plain Magistrate’s Court on related charges.
