Residents of Sonneblom Street in Bridgetown recently formed a street committee aimed at improving the infrastructure of the area as well as attending to challenges facing residents.

This has also formed part of Suzette Little’s development process for ward 49 for the beautification of the area.

Communities have been encouraged to implement sustainable solutions that would enhance the environment.

The committee submitted a request to Little to have the road widened. The road has always very narrow, but there is sufficient space to widen the road. It was also suggested the road be converted into a one-way street, to reduce congestion.

The committee also formed an association with Dion Fuller and The St. Monica’s Home in Bo-Kaap whereby he provided and planted trees for the residents of Sonneblom Street. Each household received two trees.

In another project in Bridgetown, the corner of Bosduif and Tarantaal roads underwent an extensive clean-up. The roads have been illegal dumping hotspots and in recent months have just created a haven for criminal activity, according to Little.

V For more information on how to get involved with any of these initiatives, contact Suzette Little’s office on 021 638 0964.
