Two men were arrested for possession of stolen property after they allegedly robbed a woman in Gardens on Friday 1 February.

Cape Town south district manager at Fidelity ADT, Jade Hanning, said a passerby and two armed security officers helped apprehend the men.

“Two of our officers were driving down Hatfield Street just after 17:00 when they were flagged down by a passing motorcyclist. He told them that a lady had just been robbed in Paddock Road and was in need of urgent assistance,” Hanning said.

Upon arrival in Paddock Road, Hanning said, the two officers spotted two men matching the description given to them.

“The two were stopped and questioned. The robbery victim later positively identified the men. The suspects were searched and the piece of jewellery that they had allegedly stolen earlier was found in their possession, as well as cellphones, a wallet with cash and knives.”

Hanning thanked the motorcyclist for his role in the incident and encouraged people to lend a helping hand where it is needed.

“Cape Town can be a much safer place if we all look out for each other, in the way this gentleman did. If you see someone in need, please raise the alarm so that emergency services can be deployed.

“A great way to start is to make sure you have the most important emergency and Law Enforcement contact numbers saved on your phone, so you can easily and quickly call for help,” he concluded.
