Awareness is being spread throughout the Manenberg community in the lead up to the festive season.

Manenberg police conducted an operation in the area to make the community aware of their personal safety during the festive season.

According to Manenberg police spokesperson Lieutenant Ian Bennett the operation had two purposes.

“The one was to create personal safety awareness. We find that individuals act recklessly and this leads to criminals taking advantage of a vulnerable situation. Also reporting of criminal activity so that it can be addressed immediately.”

He said the second part of the operation was to look at public transport.

“This plays a very important role in ensuring a safe passage for people to and from their places of work.”

He says it was a joint operation between the police and the traffic department.

V Anyone with information on crime can contact Manenberg police 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 0860 010 111.
