A would-be robber was stoppped in his tracks on n Monday 6 June after attempting to rob a shoe shop.

The man entered the Tekkie Town store in Main Road, Tokai, demanding his money back that he had put down on a lay-by.

Seargeant Deidre Solomon, spokesperson for Kirstenhof police, says: “The procedure was explained to him and he got very angry when he heard he could not get this money back.

“While the cashier was busy with another customer, the man then tried to take cash out of the till, but was unsuccessful.”

It is alleged that the suspect took out a knife and came around the counter to threaten the cashier.

“The cashier then managed to jump over the counter away from the suspect,” says Solomon.

The man fled the scene, but was chased down by witnesses of the incident.

“He was apprehended and brought to Kirstenhof police where he was charged for attempted robbery with a weapon other than a firearm,” says Solomon.

The suspect appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court where bail was opposed.
