In an effort to help mature people escape boredom, the University of the Third Age (U3A) hosts intimate motivational sessions every third Thursday of the month at various venues around Athlone and Manenberg. This month they will welcome Emeritus Professor Jennifer Thomson, who will discuss her book titled Confessions of an alcoholic scientist, among other topics. This was announced by U3A’s chairperson Jacki Lange. “We have had some exceptional people talking this year in our sessions and this will be just one of those. People must come, listen to some educational talk,” she saysThe organisation seeks to address issues in the community by using arts. It also works with organisations that have a similar mission to tackle these issues. Lange says those who are interested to attend the event must prepare themselves to be motivated and inspired. She urges them to bring books and magazines which will be swopped after the session.“People must bring magazines; we will donate them to charity afterwards. Also if people have some other things they want to bring like biscuits they can, but the cover fee will cover that,” she explains.Entrance fee is R5 for members and R10 for those who are not members. The event will be held at 10:00 at the Belthorn Recreational Hall.
