Tango ensemble is first note in CT concert series

2017-08-15 06:02

The second season of this year’s Cape Town Concert Series will open at the Baxter on Saturday at 20:00 with a live dance by the South African Music Awards (Sama)-nominated Cape Town Tango Ensemble.

The group was established twenty years ago and includes founders Stanislav Anguelov (bandoneon), Albert Combrink (piano), Petrus de Beer (violin) and Charles Lazar (double bass).

The talented team has worked with international tango singers such as Adriana Edwards, Juan Simon and Gustavo Fasani, as well as mezzo-soprano Violina Anguelov, one of South Africa’s most popular opera singers.

They are set to play a programme of chamber music from the tango repertoire. Cornerstones of Astor Piazzolla’s canon will be interspersed with French and Eastern European concert tangos, as well as first performances of new works by members of the ensemble.

To showcase the physical dance aspect of tango, the recital will be followed by live dancing in the foyer in celebration of the Baxter’s 40th year.

V Tickets cost R150 to R180 from Computicket. Student and senior citizen discounts are also available. For more information call 021 439 7663.
