Teen nabbed for stolen property

2018-02-13 06:00

A 19-year-old teenager was arrested and charged with being in possession of stolen property after he was found with a woman’s handbag containing a tablet and smart watch on Wednesday 31 January.

At about 02:00, constables Ashley Adonis and Amanda Hlam of Diep River Police Station were conducting general crime prevention duties in the Plumstead area when they came across the teenager, who was acting suspiciously, in Churchill Road, Plumstead.

Diep River police spokesperson, Constable Zak Marais, says the officers approached the teen and found him in possession of a woman’s handbag, which contained a tablet and smart watch.

“He could not justify the possession of these items nor where he got them from. The two constables went to investigate further and traced the owner in Woodley Road, Plumstead.

“It was later discovered that the owner’s property had been burgled. A docket of housebreaking and theft was opened.

A case of possession of stolen property was opened against the suspect,” he says.
