A local teenager is making big strides toward becoming one of the top belly dancers in the country.

Ashlyn Leigh Prinsloo (13) from Strandfontein was crowned Miss Teen Bellydance SA at the national event last month.

Prinsloo attends Spine Road High School and has been training at Dance Descendants Bellydance studio based in Goodwood under Mandy Lapperts.

Her passion for this art of dancing started at the age of six.

She has since blossomed into a passionate and professional dancer with dreams of one day owning her own dance company.

The other students of the studio also faired well, winning more than 20 awards in the junior, teen, adult, solo and group categories at the national event.

Being crowned as Miss Teen Bellydance SA was not Ashlyn Leigh’s only win – her other titles include Teen Devine Drum Solo, Teen Sensational Props, Teen Group Fascinating Fusion with Leah Sasman and Toshka Green, Teen Troupe of the Year with Leah and Toshka and Teen Soloist of the Year.
