An emotionally charged public meeting between the Grassy Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the police took place at Bruce Road Civic Centre last night (Tuesday 9 July).

The meeting follows after Grassy Park Police Station failed to attend a previous meeting on Tuesday 11 June in Lotus River ("Police absence angers residents", People's Post, 25 June).

Complaints were made in their absence and last night the station commander,Colonel Dawood Laing apologised and gave feedback to the complaints.

Laing mentioned the public was also to blame saying it protects criminals, are a threat to the officers and act against the law and get angry when dealt with.

The CPF also gave feedback, giving a presentation on the danger of imitation guns and a new safety plan that will be submitted to the provincial department of community safety later this month. The public is expected to review and give input by Friday 12 July.

Residents were not satisfied with the responses and said they want action more than words and justice to be affected fairly in their communities, with everyone treated with dignity.
