Thirsty relief on popular route

2016-03-01 06:00

There’s some relief for runners in Rondebosch with the new Rhodes Memorial water point along the Union Avenue route.

The water point was repaired by the City of Cape Town’s parks department earlier this year and will be welcomed in the area surrounding Union Avenue and leading up to Rhodes Memorial, which serves as a popular running and cycling route. The large number of walkers and athletes along the Union Avenue route improves safety for all residents, who use a water point located near the old zoo parking area.

However, recent vandalism of the tap has deprived the runners and cyclists of this pleasure. This has proved to be a huge inconvenience, especially on days when the temperature soars, and the parks department has responded to requests channelled through Ian Iversen, councillor for ward 59.

A more secure stand pipe has been installed and the tap is now back in operation.

V Report any incidents of vandalism by calling the City’s call centre on 0860 103 089.
