Three arrested for firearm

Three suspects were arrested on charges of possession of an illegal firearm last Monday.

Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith, Grassy Park police spokesperson, says Law Enforcement officers of the City of Cape Town were busy in the Ottery flats area when they received information of illegal activities at premises in Skyline court.

“The members found 3 males, and upon searching they found a black bag in the electricity box in the kitchen. Inside the bag [they found] a 9mm Pietro Beretta with a fully loaded magazine with a round in the chamber and a 7.65 magazine with 18 rounds. The serial number of the firearm had been filed off,” Kleinsmith says.

The three men, aged 15, 27 and 30, were arrested on charges of possession of an illegal firearm and of ammunition.

The suspects appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday.

Police station commander Shawn van Wyk says police will continue clamping down on crime and criminals.

Van Wyk thanked the officers of Law Enforcement for arresting the suspects.

He is further appealing to the community to get involved in the reward system, which allows any adult to become proactively involved in the prevention of crime. A reward could be received for reporting crime and criminals. Anyone with information on crime can call the police on 021 700 3940 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
