Three suspects from Crossroads, aged between 17 and 23, were arrested after Grassy Park police caught them breaking into a resident’s house in New Horizons on Wednesday. Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith says the arrests happened just before 12:00 in Nightjar Street when the area’s sector manager, Sergeant Alridge Isaacs, set off with other members on patrol in the area.“While patrolling, police observed a white Avanza and notice two males breaking the burglar gate of a residence, with a crowbar, in the mentioned street. The suspects became aware of the marked police vehicle and fled the scene. Members pursued the vehicle and manage to stop it near the Philippi area. The suspects tried to evade arrest and fled on foot. With the help of fellow colleagues all three males were arrested.” Kleinsmith says they face charges of possession of housebreaking implements, as well as attempted housebreaking. The bail application of two of the suspects was opposed in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court yesterday. They will stay in police custody while the third suspect, a juvenile, was released in his parents custody.
