Three killed in ‘hostage’ drama

2018-03-06 06:00

Circumstances surrounding the death of three people who were shot and killed on Thursday last week are still under investigation.

At 09:00 shots were fired at a home in Begonia Street leaving a 27-year-old and 54-year-old woman dead.

It is believed that a 41-year-old police officer stationed at Lentegeur Police Station had an argument with his 27-year-old girlfriend on Wednesday.

He then allegedly held the woman and her parents hostage at the Begonia Street home.

Shots were heard at 09:00 and police and ambulances were called.

It is alleged that the officer shot and killed the woman and her mother before turning the gun on himself.

Claims of a history of domestic violence are also under investigation as part of the inquest into the deaths.

Police were stationed outside the home for hours.

The circumstances surrounding the incident is still unclear and local police and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate are investigating.
