The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra has been able to release a number of seats for sale for a concert on Saturday 4 August, at Cape Town City Hall at 19:00.

“Seats previously reserved for the City of Cape Town have been released,” says Louis Heyneman, CEO of the CPO.

Heyneman will perform a work that was performed years ago: the monumental Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection” by Gustav Mahler.

The work has huge orchestral forces, an off-stage band, a choir and two soloists.

The Cape Town Symphony Choir and the Gentlemen’s Ensemble that was trained by Alexander Fokkens, along with soloists Goitsemang Lehobye (soprano) and Bongiwe Nakani (mezzo-soprano), and Bernhard Gueller, the CPO’s principal guest conductor, will be on the podium.

The opening concert will include an homage to Nelson Mandela by the South African composer Kristi Boonzaaier.

The concert will be preceded by a taste of the CPO’s youth development projects.

Learners from the Masidlale Grassroots Training Projects and the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra conducted by Brandon Phillips will be included in the opening concert.

Bernhard will also conduct another three concerts in the season.

The soloists will be Megan-Geoffrey Prins (Rachmaninov’s “Piano Concerto No. 3”) on Thursday 16 August, violinist Alissa Margulies (“Scottish Fantasy”) on Thursday 23 August and Stefan Temmingh (Jeths’s “Concerto for Recorder”) on Thursday 30 August.

There are various and better seats in the refurbished City Hall.

The seating plan has changed as well.

V Bookings can be made through Computicket.
