Police have recovered an illegal firearm after a tip-off.

Sector commanders of Steenberg police received information about an illegal firearm that was kept at a house in Eltister Road, Lavender Hill, last Tuesday.

Steenberg police spokesperson Warrant Officer John Bartlett says on arrival police found the owner of the house inside. “They explained the reason for their presence and requested permission to search the house. The members found a black rifle bag with a sawed-off shotgun with two shotgun rounds of ammunition.”

The serial number of the shotgun was filed off.

“A 76-year-old woman who was in the house was brought in for questioning and later released,” says Bartlett.

The community is once again requested not to keep or accept illegal property as they will be arrested.

V Anyone with information is requested to contact Steenberg police at 021 702 9000 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
