Too many statues

2017-09-05 06:01

Last week I heard on the radio that the Nelson Mandela statue is going ahead, and will be placed on the balcony of a building in the CBD.

Why is the City of Cape Town continuing with this as a tourism attraction? How many more statues, busts, roads and boulevards must be named after him? Who will travel to Cape Town to view a statue of Mandela?

Can these funds not be used towards cleaning and uplifting informal settlements, especially those along the highway leading away from the airport where these tourists land? Another suggestion: Rather have a mobile police unit in the gang-related areas to stop gangsters from killing innocent people.

Come on, City of Cape Town, you are wasting money here.
