Head over to Vangate Mall on Saturday to listen to our top 20 finalists in the Local is Lekker singing competition as they battle it out for a spot in the top 10.

The four judges – singer and songwriter Nur Abrahams, People’s Post reporter and music enthusiast Gary van Dyk, Brandon Leigh of KFM and Tamara Ngcizela of Vangate Mall – gathered yesterday to sift through the demos to find the top 20 talents who will perform on Saturday.

They are:

Abigail Betha, Igsaan Colbie, Karen Cupido, Aziza Davids, Razia de Klerk, Yolande Els, Thulani Fesi, Kevin Jacobs, Martinique “Fezz” Johnson, Krista Jonas, RayNay Mpali (duo), Natasha Plaatjies, Natalie Shannon, Tasneem “Tazz” Simons, Chirstine Southgate, Tasneem Williams, Behind Two Jays (duo), Julianno Beukes, Gino Lee and Charl Hudsonberg.

Following Saturday’s performance, the judges will select the top 10 who will perform with the likes of Loukmaan Adams and Nur Abrahams at the Local is Lekker Music Festival presented by Vangate Mall in conjunction with People’s Post, KFM, Coca-Cola and Vodacom on Saturday 25 March.

The winner of the competition will walk away with a recording single to debut on KFM, a R10 000 fashion voucher and a 10-inch Lenovo tablet valued at R4500.

Saturday’s top 20 performances will start in the Vangate Mall piazza (outside the food court) at 11:00.

Bring your camping chair or a picnic blanket, and of course the family, and enjoy the day with us as we look for the next local singing sensation.
