The first few days of classes have already been a huge success.Carlisle Marshall’s dream of passing on his legacy is beginning to be realised after he started teaching his classes on Monday 25 July. His energetic and hands-on approach to dance gets the group of dance students excited and keeps them attentive throughout the class.Marshall (23) has dabbled in many different styles, having started his dance career at age six, but says nothing other than hip-hop has peaked his interest. It is his love and commitment to the sport that recently saw him rewarded with top accolades for the craft (“Top dancer to leave a legacy”, People’s Post, 28 June).Having won the title of Best Male Talent and taking top spot as Cape Town’s best senior soloist at Dance Star SA last year, Marshall earned his spot on a team representing the nation in an international dance competition held in Croatia in May this year where he took fifth place in the world. He also used his dance moves and skills to promote the school with a fun video shared on Facebook displaying all the various styles he will be teaching. The schoo,l called Urban Legacy Dance Studio, is based at Zone Fitness in Westgate Mall and classes run for various age groups from Monday to Saturday. The school is open to people from all dance backgrounds from age six and up. For the first term, Marshall says intake will be done as needed, but more structured registration will be held moving forward.
