Top racers ready for Killarney

2017-05-09 06:00

Francis Carruthers and Johan Engelbrecht will be at the wheel of Carruthers’ giant seven-litre Acquila V8 (69) during the Africa Three-hour Race on Saturday.

Saturday’s round of the Power Series at Killarney is being combined with a leg of the national Africa Endurance Series.

Many of the fastest sports racing cars in South Africa will be in action in the Crossley and Webb Sports & GT events during the day, to be followed by an even more demanding contest when the national Mopar Three-hour Campos 400 begins during the sunset hours and continues into the early evening.

The race will be about tactics and reliability, with the guys behind the wheels having to take special care as they drive directly into a setting sun during the early stages of the event. That aside, the sleek V10 Lamborghini Hurracan in the hands of Jaki Scheckter and Greg Parton will be up against the equally powerful Lamborghini Gallardo driven by Simon Murray and Gavin Cronje.

Spectators can look forward to a Monster fan zone set up behind the clubhouse, with family entertainment including live coverage of the racing on a giant outdoor screen, Grand Prix simulators, an extreme skateboarding demo, and a playground with trained minders to take care of the little ones. A free shuttle service will also be available for those wishing to view the racing from the many different viewpoints around the circuit.
