Traffic department prepare for day 2 of Uber strike

2018-06-26 15:45

Richard Coleman, a spokesperson for the city’s traffic department, says that at 10 am this morning, several Uber drivers blocked Somerset Road in Green point to protest against the impounding of three of their vehicles by the department.

Coleman also says that traffic officials are on standby for the possibility of the Uber drivers continuing their strike tomorrow(Tuesday).

According to him, violence erupted when the traffic department tried to disperse a crowd of about 30 drivers. In the ensuing altercation, about five male and two female officers incurred slight injuries.

“The protestors that were arrested during today’s protests are currently being held at the central police station where their dockets are being processed’’, says Coleman.

“The protest had come to an end at about 12:20. It is still unclear whether other transport companies were also involved in today’s protest alongside the Uber drivers,” Coleman concluded.
