Trio nabbed for house robbery

Three foreign nationals aged 23, 25 and 36 were arrested on charges of house robbery on Tuesday 22 January at 21:00.

The men were at their home in New Rest, Gugulethu when they were arrested.

The arrest came after an investigation by two dedicated warrant officers, Gregory Grey and Herman Meissenheimer, following a house robbery which took place on Saturday 19 January at 07:20 at a home in Blom Street, Rondebosch East.

The complainant, a woman residing alone in the house, explained that she had given one of the suspects a contract to paint the house and he had been working for several days, painting the house. He therefore also had keys to the house.

On the day of the robbery he came to the house with two friends and locked the woman in the bathroom. Her mouth was taped shut with duct tape.

The men then allegedly ransacked the house.

With the assistance of CCTV video footage, officers were able to obtain the registration number of the getaway vehicle used and followed the lead to their home in Gugulethu.

The men were arrested on charges of house robbery and have appeared in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.

The men made off with a Samsung plasma TV, Lenovo laptop and a camera which were found n their possession. The items were booked in at Lansdowne Police Station as evidence.
