Imagining what a significant religious site mentioned in the Bible looks like brings joy to one’s heart, but to be able to witness it with your own eyes is an even more joyous and memorable moment.

These were the words of a local pastor at a church in Crawford last week, when he joined committee members of the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) of the South Peninsula region to discuss planning for an upcoming trip to Turkey.

Pastor David Muller, in charge of the programme, said pilgrims will embark on an epic journey of a lifetime and experience the seven churches of Revelation.

The trip, set to take place from Saturday 29 September to Tuesday 9 October, will include visits to several tourist attractions across Turkey and viewings of the marvels of archaeological works done there.

“We are very excited about the trip as it is a significant one for all of us. This is an important passage of churches we plan to visit, from the earliest churches that were established by the apostles in those cities,” explained Muller.

“This is also important for us as we aim to use it as an educational [trip] for our members. These churches we are set to visit are mentioned in The Book and by seeing it personally we will have a deeper understanding and meaningful relationship with God.

“Many of the people who have come forward have never travelled out of the country before, and for some it will be their first time on a plane. It is an exciting feeling and we are looking forward to the success of this trip.”

Miriam Basson, also from the church, says about 15 people have already signed up. “These individuals are from different communities across Cape Town and are all funding their own cost for the package which is R20 000.”

The cost includes coverage of plane tickets, accommodation in hotels, breakfast and supper, and entry to tourist attractions among others.

“All moneys need to be in before October. Some people have already paid up fully while others are still gathering their remaining costs for the trip. We are inviting more people to join us on this memorable occasion, with a maximum of 25 in the group. We will also have a special tour guide on board to make our trip even more memorable.”

Places to be visited include Izmir, Pergamon, Thyatira, Saros, Philadelphia, Hierapolis, Pamukkale, Laodicea, Aphrodisias, Kusadasi, Antalya and an Ephesus tour and visit to the basilica of John.

Another group of pilgrims from the church have recently departed to Israel on a similar journey. The church plans several other trips and invites the public to join in.
