Pink tutus, purple wigs, red hearts, glitter masks, feather boas, original black-bag dresses and even baby bibs – these were all spotted on participants of the 33rd annual Community Chest Twilight Festival Run/Walk on Tuesday last week.

The city centre streets were a canvas of colour as over 9000 people took on the route’s 5km.

“It really is the giving spirit and infectious enthusiasm of our participants – not to mention their brave dress sense – that make the Twilight Festival such a success and pleasure to host every year,” says Jo Pereira, head of strategy and sustainability at Community Chest.

This was the first year that the run raised funds for a specific cause. Community Chest will use the profits raised to buy school bags, shoes, stationery and other school materials, while all the stationery that was collected at the event will be distributed to primary and secondary schools in need in Cape Town at the beginning of next year.

The largest corporate team was I&J with 600 entries, while the Taj Hotel team walked away with the best dressed prize.
