Many children dream of exploring the world but sadly, some never get to realise their dreams.

This was the case for KZN-born twins Sifiso and Sibusiso Mokwena, who moved to Cape Town after completing high school in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg. “We applied for a learnership which led us to Cape Town and we thought ‘this is it, our first adventure awaits’,” Sibusiso said.

On arrival in Cape Town, the twins’ dreams of adventure and exploring the world re-emerged and they wanted to go on as many adventures as possible. “First thing we did was enquire how we could get to Table Mountain and Lion’s Head and were amazed by the pricing. We then thought of hiking,” Sibusiso continued.

“This happened by chance. We did not know anything about hiking, but we did it anyway,” Sifiso explained.

Their first hiking adventure saw the two disembarking from the train in the city centre and taking a bus at 17:55. Things did not go as planned. “We got lost. It was dark, but we still had fun. It was just us, the Cape Town Twins, and two of our friends who had also never hiked before,” Sifiso continued.

They encourage people to consider hiking because that is one of the few fun things one can do without spending much. “We love hiking because it keeps us fit, it is fun, we explore and it is quite cost effective,” Sibusiso explained.

Unlike other siblings who like spending time apart from each other, the two do almost everything together. “We have so much in common. We do have differences, but we always try to accommodate each other. Growing up, one was either with mom and the other with our grandmother, so we never spent time together,” Sifiso said.

“We later became close and since we both wanted to become millionaires, we grew closer.”

At a glance, it seems like all the Cape Town Twins do is hiking, but they have other interests as well. “We love going out with friends and having fun. We love exploring wine farms and we are deep into playing Fifa. We consider ourselves as couch potatoes because when we are not hiking or out to wine farms, we are home watching series or playing video games,” Sibusiso said further. The twins have 4719 followers on social media – people who are eager to see what their next adventure will be.
