A 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Hanover Park last Tuesday.

Philippi police spokesperson Captain Lance Goliath says the stabbing happened in Athwood Road at 15:10.

“A 16-year-old [victim] was stabbed in his neck with a sharp object. [He] was taken to the local day hospital where he subsequently passed away,” Goliath says.

The slain teenager, Justin Abrahams, was a learner at Mountview High School.

Sources report that the murder was allegedly gang-related, but police say they cannot confirm the motive for the killing.

“Police arrested a 15-year-old boy and another 19-year-old suspect for the murder,” he says.

They appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on on Thursday.

Colonel Dennis Abels, commander of the Philippi Police Station, has condemned the killing and warns that criminals “will be brought to book”.
