Two nabbed for illegal guns

Police have arrested a 55-year-old woman in Tafelsig for possession of a gun.

Mitchell’s Plain police received a tip-off that a gun was being kept at a house in Ridge Street and followed up on it on Wednesday last week at 19:15.

When police arrived, they requested permission to search the house.

Police say that as they entered the house, the woman allegedly placed a cushion on top of a box and wanted to carry the box out of the room.

When officers asked her to open the box, they found a shotgun with live rounds and an empty cartridge.

The woman was arrested.

In an unrelated matter, police arrested a 37-year-old man on Sunday last week for possession of a gun.

Mitchell’s Plain police were conducting patrols at Town Centre’s Polka Square when they noticed a suspicious-looking group of people.

When the men saw the police van approaching, they ran away.

The officers gave chase and saw a man take something out of his pants and put it on a wall.

Officers caught up to him and went back to recover the pistol.
