Two shops in Tafelsig targeted

Police arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly trying to rob a spaza shop in ­Tafelsig.

The attempted business robbery in Sugarloaf Street was reported to the police.

The incident took place on Monday 13 August at 07:10.

It is alleged that the owner was at his shop when a robber asked him to open his shop, but the shop owner refused.

The robber retaliated by throwing stones and beer bottles at the owner.

In an unrelated incident on the same day, another business owner was in his shop in Plattekloof Street, Tafelsig serving customers.

A man entered the shop at 19:30.

The robber drew a knife and threatened the shop owner.

The robber made off with R1500 in cash, chips, cooldrinks and 25 packets of ­cigarettes.

An investigation by local police led to the arrest of a 23-year-old.
