Two shot at shop in Lavender Hill

2017-07-04 06:00

Two people were rushed to hospital after they were shot on Saturday at about 20:40.

A 36-year-old man was shot in his left leg and a 45-year-old woman was shot in her left thigh.

Warrant Officer John Bartlett says when police arrived on the scene the man was lying in the yard of a house in Grindal Crescent in Lavender Hill.

“Police officers also found a 45-year-old female victim at another house in Grindal Crescent, sitting in the lounge.”

It is alleged that both victims were at a shop in Eltister Street when two unknown people fired several shots at them.

The shooters fled the scene on foot.

The man was taken to Victoria Hospital by ambulance and the woman was taken to Retreat Day Hospital by family.

“Steenberg police opened a case of attempted murder and no-one has been arrested yet,” he says.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old boy was arrested for the possession of a 9mm Norinco pistol with one magazine on Friday. Since he is a youth he was transferred to Wynberg police.

V Anyone with information on the shooting should call Steenberg police on 021 702 9000.
