Uncut diamonds found in the CBD

2016-11-22 06:00

Cape Town Central police have arrested a man for the possession of uncut diamonds.

Police officers spotted a black BMW 750 series without valid registration plates on the corner of Strand and Adderley streets on Wednesday just after 14:30.

The officers stopped the car but the driver could not produce any proof of ownership, explains Cape Town Central police spokesperson Captain Ezra October.

The 51-year-old driver from Constantia took something out of his pocket and attempted to hand it over to his friend, but the vigilant officers noticed the exchange and confiscated the plastic packet, October says. “Police opened the package and noticed there were 12 uncut diamonds wrapped inside. The driver could not account for the possession of the diamonds and was subsequently arrested.”
