Undercover bust

2017-05-16 06:00

Two men have been arrested following an undercover operation in Westridge.

On Saturday 6 May at 15:00 police instructed an informant to buy something undercover at a house in Avocado Way, says police spokesperson Captain Ian Williams.

“It is an operation where police get a person to try to buy drugs or liquor at a suspected illegal shebeen or drug house. The person is given money that is recorded and, once they return with goods, a raid is conducted,” he says.

The undercover operation was a response to a tip-off that drugs were being sold at the house.

On Saturday, in accordance with the section 252-type operation, a police informant pretended to be a client and bought drugs at the house.

The informant was given a R50 note and instructed to try and buy tik.

After the transaction was done, police conducted a raid and recovered the R50 note and an additional R471 in cash.

Police also confiscated a packet of tik.

Williams says: “In order for this operation to be successful, the recorded money must be recovered. This and the drugs or liquor is entered into evidence. If either is not available, the section 252 was not successful.”

Two men, aged 35 and 42, were arrested and face a charge of drug dealing.
