Desert Rose will launch their latest album Wahe Guru – Aquarian Sadhana at The Novalis Ubuntu Institute in Wynberg at 19:00 on Saturday (21 October).

The music of Desert Rose is known to allow the listener to access their inner world where deep healing is facilitated and the boundaries of the physical is transcended.

They recently launched it at the annual Kundalini Yoga Festival in Gauteng, with performances of their new songs as well as favourites from their extensive repertoire of world music.

Founded in 1999 by world music composer Lynne Holmes, Desert Rose is based in Cape Town and is widely regarded as leaders in producing and performing of Universal Sacred World Music.

The concert is a fundraiser for the YES! For Schools Programme, which is currently being taught in various schools within the Western Cape. With October being National Bullying Prevention Month, they are raising awareness about the YES! For Schools Programme and hoping to generate funding for schools within the Western Cape.

“The programme offers young people practical tools and life skills to manage stress and emotions. When students learn to manage their stress in a healthy way, they exhibit greater confidence and motivation to succeed in school and make healthy choices when faced with life’s challenges,” says Elizabeth Beer YES! For Schools Teacher.

Holmes and Yusuf Ganief are at the heart of Desert Rose, and together have produced 16 albums within the genres of meditation, healing, deep relaxation, sacred world music and universal multilingual mantra music. Their music is known to facilitate healing and raising consciousness.

Ganief is currently the leading multilingual world music vocalist in Southern Africa and, together with Holmes, have performed mostly abroad to promote peace, non violence, interfaith and Climate Change Awareness.

“At a time where our headlines are dominated by violence, crime and corruption, let’s do something positive and unite people on a deeper level through the power of collective consciousness,” says Beer.

Since 2012 Holmes and Ganief have performed at major venues in London, Oxford, Penang Island and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Singapore, Poland just to mention a few countries.

Holmes is the winner of numerous awards and performed as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra for National Television at the age of 13.

One of her performance highlights was composing and performing for Nelson Mandela in 1995. She has composed and produced 16 world music albums and received a five-star rating for her album “Silence of the Music”.

She is recognised locally and internationally as one of the leading composers of sacred world music. Her last two albums, Ajai Alai and Aquarian Sadhana, reflect her love for Sikh traditions and teachings.

V The concert takes place on Saturday 21 October at 19:00 at The Novalis Ubuntu Institute and tickets are available from Qucket at R 150 per person.
