A young student from Maitland warns residents to avoid walking alone on Kensington bridge as she has fallen victim to robbers there.

Cindy Louis (24) has told People’s Post of her ordeal of being robbed at gunpoint in broad daylight.

She says she always knew walking alone in the dark was unsafe, but she never thought 08:00 in the morning on a week day would turn into a nightmare in just a few seconds like when she saw a gun waving in front of her eyes.

She was robbed at gunpoint by two unknown men on her way from Kensington to Maitland on Friday 21 April. She was left bruised on one arm after the robbers allegedly grabbed her.

They took her cellphone.

“I walked over the bridge and as I took the corner, two guys suddenly pushed me against the side of the bridge. The one wore a hoodie jacket and the other one was hardcore, he pointed the gun at me. The one in the hoodie swore at me and said I must give them everything. I went numb when I saw the gun, I just dropped my bag and waited for the sound,” she says.

“I thought they might shoot me. You never know, every thug is different, some are hectic and others use weapons to just scare people.”

The robbers started running towards Maitland.

A cyclist who happened to witness the robbery chased them on his bike and managed to grab the bag from them and return it her.

She walked home, where she realised she had bruises on one arm and only her phone was missing from her bag.

Louis, who is studying towards a degree in marketing and business management, says though the robbery shocked her, she developed the courage to speak out about it and warn people to not fall victim in the same spot.
